Our Sewing Recital was just as much fun as we hoped. There were 30 people attending, and their creations were fantastic. We saw everything from wedding dresses to mittens! Such amazing talent and expertise. The two hours went by so fast, it was over before we knew it! Thank you to my Sewin' Sisters who helped me every step of the way. It was well worth the effort!
November 17 we will sew for Light House Ministries. We'll continue making cold weather clothing and warm blankets for babies and toddlers. One of our sewin' sisters made blankets from wool suitings, linen, polyester doubleknit, and other fabrics not normally used for blankets. They were trimmed with lace, ruffles, or decoratively stitched on the edges. They really turned out really cool! So think outside the box and use up what you have on hand.
December 15 at 11:30 Pat Nissle of Light House Ministries will give us more information about her ministry in the streets of Harrisburg. I don't know how much actual sewing we will get done on the 15th -- we can sew from 10 am to 11:30, and then we'll give Pat ample time to speak, and then sew until 2:00 pm. In Pat's previous presentation, we asked her to tell us about her immediate needs so we could start sewing ASAP to help her out. At this meeting she will give us the presentation that she normally gives to various churches and organizations who support her ministry. Christmas is the perfect time for us to learn about the gift of love that Pat extends to our neighbors, and the gift of love through sewing that we can give to her.
Tentative Projects for 2008: January 19, 2008 we will continue to sew winter stuff for Light House Ministries. February 16 we will sew winter clothing and blankets for Salvation Army and Morning Star. March 15 is Sew Much for Charity, so please put it on your new 2008 calendar in ink! April 19 and May 17, 2008 we will concentrate on totebags for Salvation Army's summer day camp. They need 90 solid color 17" x 17" (cut dimensions) sturdy totebags. These projects are not carved in stone. If you have fabric on hand to sew something from the Salvation Army list, that's great too! As a reminder, here's what they need: any winter items such as hats, mittens, long sleeve pajamas, long sleeve shirts, scarves, slippers, prayer shawls, 45 adult smocks, 60 youth smocks, 30 children's aprons, totebags to hold emergency items for disaster victims (any size, color, or print), towels, wash cloths, blankets, curtains, linens, towels, wash cloths, hand towels, table cloths, placemats, etc.
SNOW & ICE REMINDER: If we get an accumulation of snow or ice, there might not be anywhere to park, and we might have to cancel the sewing circle. So please call before you come, even if the sun is out!
In November we donated the following to Light House Ministries: 6 duffle bags, 3 pair summer toddler overalls, 5 baby toddler jackets, 2 onsies, 16 winter hats or baby bonnets, 18 pairs of child’s mittens, 73 baby blankets, 5 child’s scarves, 4 baby sleepers, 34 dish towels, 5 wash mitts, 1 crocheted edged wash cloth, 5 baby buntings, 1 summer bunting, 1 stuffed bunny, 1 child’s pj pants, 3 child’s fleece pants, 1 toddler poncho, 3 pair booties, 5 ear huggers, 10 one size fits all scarves, ITEMS DONATED TOTAL 202
